The Sensex has opened at 16,500 owing to subdued global cues. The index has slipped to a low of 16,412 and finally ended at 16,425, down 71 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,907, down 26 points.

Sterlite is the top loser on the Sensex, down 2% at Rs 765. Jaiprakash Associates, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Hindalco and HDFC have declined 1.5% each.

The other major losers were Grasim, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti and Tata Motors, down 1% each.

ONGC on the other hand has added around 2% to Rs 1,151. ICICI Bank and ACC were up 0.5% each at 845 and 887, respectively.
