Markets trim losses

After touching a low of 18,540, the Sensex has pared some of its losses and is down 58 points at 18585 and Nifty too has shed 20 points at 5584. In the broader market space, the smallcap and the midacp continue to outperform the benchmark index.The smallcap index has advanced its gains at 0.6% and the midcap index too moved up at 0.4% as comaperd to the benchmark index down 0.2%.

On the BSE sectoral indices, HealthCare has inched furthur and is up 0.8% followed by Consumer Durables at 03% and PSU at 0.2%.
Capital Goods and FMCG are trading flat while Oil & Gas, Power have pared some of its initial losses but continue in the red along with Realty, Metal, Teck and IT.Sun Pharma up 3%, Piramal Health adding 2% and Apollo Hospital gaining nearly 1.5% are the movers in the Healthcare space. The draggers in the metal space are Tata Steel and SAIL down 1%, Wel Corp and Sesa Goa shedding 0.8%.

Also, the shares of companies engaged in rice paddy processing such as KRBL, LT Foods and Kohinoor Foods are in limelight on the bourses today, with many of them trading between 5% and 14% higher after floods in Pakistan that destroyed the rice crop. Among individual stocks, KRBL the largest gainer – up 14% in trade today to its lifetime high level of Rs 34.55 on the NSE. LT Foods and Kohinoor Foods are trading 5% higher at Rs 68.05 and Rs 57.10 levels, respectively on the NSE.

ACC and Hindustan Unilever up 1% is the top gainer on the Sensex.Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, SBI, ONGC, Tata Power adding 0.2% - 0.7% are the other significant gainers.

Tata Steel and NTPC down 1% are the top losers on the Sensex. TCS,Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure and Jindal Steel down 0.6%- 0.7% are the other significant losers.

The market breadth is positive. 1588 stocks have advanced while 944 have declined.
