Markets off day's lows

The Sensex has recovered more than 100 points from its day's low and is now quoting at 15838, weaker by 386 points, and the Nifty is at 4735,  down 105 points.

The markets continued to be in the doldrums in afternoon trades. The Sensex is down 442 points at 15,782 and the Nifty is lower by 136 points at 4,708. The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices are down around 3% each.

All sectoral indices are in red. The BSE realty, metal and bankex have dropped 3-4% each.

Tata Steel has tumbled 5.6% to Rs 545. Hindalco has slumped 5.4% to Rs 138. Sterlite has slipped 3.7% to Rs 724.

Jaiprakash Associates has shed 5.5% to Rs 123. Markets heavyweight, Reliance, has slipped 2.7% to a new 52-week low of Rs 992.

ICICI Bank, SBI and HDFC Bank have dropped 2-4% each.

Other top losers in the market today are ONGC, DLF, Tata Motors, BHEL, Infosys, TCS and ACC.

The BSE market breadth is extremely negative. Out of 2,778 shares traded on the BSE, there are 2,409 declining stocks as against 341 advances.
