IIM Shillong achieves full placement for first batch
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Shillong Apr 05, 2010, 00:20 IST

Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong-- which began operations in July 2008-- has successfully placed its first batch of 63 students.

The institute in its first year of operation, has registered the highest international offer of Rs 33 lakh per annum and the highest domestic offer of Rs 18 lakh per annum. Average salary at the institute is at Rs 9.8 lakh per annum.

“Despite being the youngest IIM with teething problems of logistics and infrastructure, our students have managed some good offers and the institute is happy about it,” said a professor from the institute.

The students have bagged four international offers from Indonesia, Singapore and Dubai, respectively. The offers are made in the field of marketing, retail and international operations. Companies that recruited from the campus include : HSBC Bank, Central Bank of India, Infosys Technologies, Tata Motors, Escorts, Essar Group, Gati Logistics, SBI Caps, Power Finance Corporation, Bank of Baroda, Deloitte and Adani Group.

Arijit C Majumdar, chief of corporate relations and external affairs of RGIIM Shillong, told Business Standard that the institute could overcome the logistic problems by arranging video-conferencing of many of its placement sessions. “We could very well overcome the logistic problems in placing our students by arranging video conferencing,” Majumdar said.

RGIIM-Shillong started functioning from 2008 from a makeshift campus. The work on its permanent campus, which will be spread over 120 acres, is coming up.

The institute offers a two-year post-graduate diploma in management (PGDM), besides some short-term courses.
